A Journey Into DEFTONES Music: Top 5 Songs You Should Know
In lieu of the recent news about Deftones postponed tour with Gojira and Poppy, we want to take you to their musical journey. This is for everyone to embrace, whether you are familiar with the band or not.

Deftones is an American alternative metal nband formed in Sacramento, California in 1988. It was formed by the eclectic singer Chino Moreno, Stephen Carpenter (lead guitar) and Abe Cunningham (drums) with the addition of Frank Delgado on the turntables 15 years after their formation. The band is known as one of the most experimental groups to have come from the alternative metal scene and have released nine albums since their inception. Although initially rooted in metal, Deftones have always claimed diverse influences from groups of various genres, with their musical style diversifying over their career. Originally, the band was often associated with the "nu metal" movement in the press. However, Moreno has emphatically rejected the application of that label to the band. Moreno's lyrics were described by TIME as "suggesting emotions rather than announcing them". Here are the top 5 Deftones songs you should get into: Be Quiet And Drive (Far Away) (Around The Fur, 1997)
Probably one of the best examples of singer Chino’s androgyny voice, which is a huge mark in Deftones music, outshining them from the rest of the scene of this genre, which usually relies on a met-headed machismo attitude and vocal sound. This is an abstract journey into the unknown, definitely a great companion for road trips. Beware, you might have a musical orgasm at 23 seconds. Change (In The House Of Flies) (White Pony, 2000)
A psychosexual song that the band describes as a metaphorical examination of the change in a person after suffering a traumatic break-up. This is the most successful extract from their album White Pony and it redefined who the Sacramento quintet were at the very dawn of the millennium. Digital Bath (White Pony, 2000)
This song it’s the beginning of the delicate beauty of Deftones in the early 2000s. With the addition of keyboard/turntable specialist Frank Delgado as a permanent member, this marks the dawn of the sound we used to hear in bands such as Incubus, Linkin Park and Slipknot at times, who always had a turntablist since the mid 90’s. In this case, Deftones always thrive to keep a very clean yet nightmarish dimension. Bored (Adrenaline,1995)
A raw and powerful track that stands out from Deftones catalogue. This is part of the band’s debut LP so if you feel like listening to the origin of the band, we highly recommend you get into this whole project. My Own Summer (Shove It) (Around The Fur,1997)
If you’re a 90s kid there’s a good chance you’ve heard this song in your own MTV summer. A very famous video and probably one of the most recognizable guitar riffs in the nu-metal scene of that time which remains their most effective, impactful statement.
